Cutting down your electricity bill

Electricity bills often come as bitter surprises. So much for turning off the unwanted lights and using the iron less, it still hardly makes a difference. If you really want to cut down on your electricity bill make a few small changes around your house and just wait for the bill to arrive!

On the top of the list is throwing out all your incandescent bulbs and replace them with fluorescent bulbs. A fluorescent bulb consumes 20-27 watts to give out the same amount of light that a 100 watt incandescent bulb gives you. These may be a little more expensive but in the long term they can save you hundreds of dollars on your electricity bill.

While working on your desk at home use a small desk lamp which is enough to light your desk instead of one which lights the whole room. Such small changes make a big difference.

Unplug devices such as chargers, hair dryers and washing machines after use. They may not be consuming electricity for any work but they still do consume a little electricity just for being plugged in.

Set your refrigerator and home cooling system’s temperature a little above what you mostly do. Just a change of 5 degree Fahrenheit will not affect the cooling much but will affect your bill greatly.
